Haramain high-speed rail has started today a test run between Al-Sulaymaniyah station in Jeddah and Al-Rusaifah station in Makkah, state-owned Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.
The 450 kilometer-railway will begin commercial operations in 2018, after fulfilling safety and operational requirements, Nabeel Al-Amudi, minister of transport, said.
Al-Haramain’s pilot trip will be received by Prince Khalid Al Faisal, governor of Makkah province, Al-Amudi and other senior officials.
The high-speed rail line is a network connecting the Kingdom’s two holy cities of Makkah and Madinah through Jeddah, King Abdul Aziz International Airport and King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) in Rabigh, Argaam earlier reported.
