Saudi Basic Industries Corp.’s (SABIC) new polypropylene (PP) extrusion facility in Geleen, The Netherlands, is now fully operational, the company said in a statement.

The state-of-the-art process facility, located next to SABIC’s existing polymerization plant in Geleen, will produce PP products and the next generation copolymers targeted at industries such as the packaging and automotive sectors, which are seeking to develop more lightweight products and to reduce energy consumption in their process manufacturing.

“Our new PP extrusion facility is an excellent example of how SABIC is delivering on its promise to provide customers with advanced material technologies they need to be successful,” Sjoerd Zuidema, director of Polypropylene Business Europe, SABIC, said.

“By providing high- quality, high-performance materials for ever-evolving industry requirements, we are opening up new possibilities and helping our customers reduce energy consumption by lowering processing temperatures and shortening cycle times,” he said.

In September, SABIC said the Geleen pilot plant is part of its network of 21 Global Technology Centers and the two facilities are in line with its 2025 strategy to be the preferred world leader in chemicals.
