US-based tech giants Apple and Amazon are holding discussions with the Saudi government to invest and have a direct presence in the Kingdom, Reuters reported, citing unnamed sources.
A licensing agreement for Apple stores with Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) is expected by February, with an initial retail store targeted for 2019, the news agency said.
It quoted sources saying that the Amazon’s talks, which were at the initial stage, are being led by its cloud computing division Amazon Web Services. No specific date has been set for the investment plan, the sources added.
Apple and Amazon are selling products in the Kingdom through third parties, but do not have a direct presence.
