Al-Babtain Power & Telecommunication Co.’s new wind energy firm has signed a contract with King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) to lease 102,000 square meters (sqm) of land in the Industrial Valley, according to a statement.
Under the agreement, a wind turbine will be built on the plot, with operations expected to launch in 2019.
The new project aims to first address the needs of the Saudi market, before supplying other markets in the GCC and Middle East, said Ibrahim Al-Babtain, chairman of Al-Babtain.
In April last year, Al-Babtain’s board of directors agreed to set up a fully-owned wind power company in Riyadh with a capital of SAR 5 million.
