Saudi Arabia’s new job creation unit seeks to create 1.2 million new jobs for citizens in the private sector by 2022, Al Eqtisadiah newspaper reported, citing Khaled Aba Al-Khail, spokesperson for Saudi labor ministry.

The Kingdom plans to cut the unemployment rate to 9 percent by 2022, by providing an average of 240,000 jobs per year.

The Saudi cabinet recently decided to set up an agency to take charge of employing citizens in private sector. This new entity will be monitored by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development and will replace the Job Creation and Employment Commission.

The unemployment rate in Saudi Arabia reached 12.8 percent in Q3 2017, according to data issued by Saudi General Authority for Statistics.
