Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman described the recent anti-corruption campaign and other reforms in Saudi Arabia as part of a 'shock' therapy needed to stem 'endemic corruption' and modernize the country.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman was speaking to The Washington Post on Tuesday, and assessed that: “The Kingdom could not meet budget targets without halting this looting.”
The Crown Prince described the military and government reshuffle, ordered by King Salman this week, as an effort to install 'high energy' people, who could achieve the modernization targets.
Commenting on the appointment of a new military chief of staff along with other commanders, Prince Mohammed said changes had been planned for years for better results, regarding defense spending.
The Saudi government announced recently a resolution of a major anti-corruption effort, from which it recovered over SAR 400 billion from businessmen, royalties and government officials charged with corruption.
