Sadara, French Veolia ink MoU for central utilities facility in PlasChem Park

30/05/2018 Argaam

Sadara Chemical Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Paris-based industrial waste management Veolia Middle East group to construct a sustainable central utilities facility in PlasChem Park, according to a company’s statement.

Under the agreement, Veolia will provide a long-term waste management solution for Sadara and will have the chance to build a utility plant including waste management and waste energy facilities at PlasChem Park.

The to-be-built central utilities “island” will incinerate industrial wastes and recover the heat from this process to produce a usable steam by-product. It will also be an attraction point for PlasChem Park investors, providing their proposed manufacturing plants with third-party steam at an attractive price, the press release said.

Moreover, the Veolia facility will produce cooled water and compressed air, which will be available to PlasChem Park tenants for industrial use.

The investments in the utilities project will be made by Veolia and partners, while Sadara will act only as facilitator to the project’s success, in addition to transferring waste products to the plant.

PlasChem Park is a partnership between Sadara and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY) and located in Jubail Industrial City II.

Veolia group has participated in the operation and maintenance of industrial waste water projects and in delivering EPC works – specifically, the Marafiq Desalination Plant (800,000 m3/day) and the Sadara SWRO plant (178,000 m3/day).
