The Saudi national soccer team will make every effort, when it takes part for the fifth time in FIFA World Cup which kicks off on Thursday in Russia, to achieve good results and exceed its previous achievement of reaching the round of 16 in World Cup 1994, according to a statement published by Saudi Press Agency.

The Saudi team will play host nation, Russia, in Group A on June 14. The group also includes national teams of Egypt and Uruguay.

The Saudi team, led by Argentinian coach Solary, succeeded in crossing the first round in World Cup America 1994 after topping the group from two wins over Morocco (2-1) and Belgium (1-0) and losing to Holland (2-1), which ranked second with a goal difference from Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi team was beaten by Sweden in round 16 of the finals to quit the tournament. The team could not show up at the South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014 versions.
