SEC built six SAR 1.5 bln substations for Haramain Rail

Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) has built six 380 kilovolt substations to enhance service reliability to Haramain Rail, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The projects were designed according to “world-class advanced standards” at a total cost over SAR 1.5 billion, CEO Ziad Al-Shiha said.

The electric load of the Haramain rail reaches 200 Mega Volt Amp (MVA), and the total capacity of the substations is 720 MVA, of which three stations are located in Makkah and the other three are in Madinah, he said.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman inaugurated on Tuesday the 450 kilometer-long rail line, which is expected to start commercial operations on Oct. 4, connecting Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdul Aziz International Airport, King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh and Madinah.
