Saudi inflation down to 2.1% in September

Saudi Arabia’s inflation rate declined to 2.1 percent in September 2018, the latest figures from the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.

The cost of living index leveled up to 107.1 points in September, compared to 104.9 points in the same month last year.

The GASTAT changed the base year for the consumer price index to 2013 from 2007 and adjusted the basket of goods and services.

Prices of ten main groups in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket increased, led by transportation, which increased 11 percent in September.

Tobacco as well as Hotels and Restaurants also followed adding 10.0 percent and 8.4 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, Apparel and Footwear and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuel retreated during September.
