Saudi Arabia’s King Salman launched the Northern Region Cement Co.’s white Portland cement project, the company said in a statement.
The white cement project, with a capacity of 1500 tons daily, will fill a current market gap and make it more difficult for competitors to enter the market, general manager, Obaid Al Subaie previously said.
Saudi Arabia’s 2018 annual white cement consumption stands at 600,000 tons per annum (tpa), and the company currently imports around 400,000 tpa.
“The project comes in line with the Kingdom’s self-sufficiency strategy,” said Al Subaie, adding that the company’s production capacity will increase to 600,000 tpa following the SAR 565 million planned expansion. A 40 percent of the company’s output will be exported to regional and global markets, he noted.
