The merger between Saudi Railway Co. (SAR) and Saudi Railways Organization is expected to be finalized by Q1 2019, minister of transport Nabil Ala'amoodi told CNBC Arabia.
In parallel with the merger, several rail investment opportunities will be offered to the private sector, he said.
Elsewhere, new public-private partnerships are underway on developing ports, as the ministry has over 20 years of experience in privatizing ports, the minister said.
As for airports, the ministry is reviewing the airports privatization strategy, and it is in the final stage of obtaining royal approval on restructuring airports, he added.
