The number of retail investors on the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) stood at 4.72 million by the end of the Q3 2018, with 3.72 million males, and nearly 1 million females, data from the Capital Market Authority (CMA) showed.
The number of retail investor portfolios reached 9.75 million in Q3, almost double the number of investors.

Saudi retail investors owned SAR 490.8 billion worth of stocks by the end of Q3, accounting for 26 percent of the total market value that hit SAR 1.89 trillion.
Individual professional investors and high net-worth investors owned stocks worth SAR 263.03 billion and SAR 148.1 billion, respectively.
Ownership of government-related entities in Saudi-listed companies, which account for 40 percent of the total market value, rose 20 percent year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 753.15 billion in Q3.
Corporate ownership reached SAR 296.35 billion, while mutual funds’ ownership stood at SAR 94.25 billion in the same period.
Meanwhile, qualified foreign investors (QFIs) owned SAR 16.51 billion worth of stocks by the end of the third quarter – a twofold increase YoY.
