Saudi water ministry to expand Al Ahsa sewage treatment project

Abdulrahman Mohsen Al-Fadhli, Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and also the chairman of the National Water Co. (NWC) has signed a deal for the expansion of the first phase of the Al Ahsa sewage treatment plant, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

The three-year expansion project, at a total value of SAR 243 million, has a capacity of 180,000 cubic metres per day (cm/d) of water.

"The project is expected to boost the water treatment capacity to 360,000 cm/d," Al-Fadhli said during the signing ceremony.

NWC plans to boost its water treatment capacity to 6.3 million cm/d, almost three times the capacity in 2012, spending SAR 89.1 billion between 2012 and 2020, Argaam reported.
