Prices of Saudi commodities rise in January

Prices of 70 goods and services in Saudi Arabia dropped year-on-year (YoY) while prices of 88 commodities rose in January 2019, official data issued by the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) show.

Out of the total of 88 food products, prices of 56 items increased YoY for the month, while prices of other 30 products decreased.

Cucumber saw the biggest drop at 23 percent YoY, while prices of eggs saw the biggest increase at 22 percent YoY.

As for non-food commodities, the prices of nine items increased in January, with laundry detergent rising the most by 6 percent.

The prices of eight services rose last month compared to January 2017, while five services saw lower prices.

Prices of all fodder and livestock products increased in January.

Meanwhile, prices of 29 construction materials declined for the month, while eight materials went up. Prices of 8 mm-rebar dropped the most by 5.00 percent.
