Today marks the 13th anniversary for the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) recording its highest intraday level of 20,967 points, to close at 20,635 pts.

Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) ended today’s session at 8,433 pts, down 59 percent compared to Feb. 25, 2006.

Compared to Feb. 25, 2018, TASI gained 13 percent.

Over the last 13 years, the Saudi benchmark recorded a high of 11,965 pts in 2008, a high of 11.871 pts in 2007 and 11,160 pts in 2014.

The Saudi benchmark currently has 190 listed companies including real estate investment traded funds (REITs), compared to only 77 firms in Feb. 25, 2006.

Over this period, the market saw several company delistings, including Mohammad Al Mojil Group (MMG), Weqaya Takaful Insurance and Reinsurance Co. (Weqaya), Bisha Agriculture Development Co., Sanad Cooperative Insurance and Integrated Telecom Co. (ITC). Additionally, Almarai Co. completed the acquisition of Hail Agricultural Development Co. in 2009. Also, a total of 34 insurance companies were listed, and a new REITs division was introduced to the market.

Meanwhile, Saudia Dairy and Foodstuff Co. (SADAFCO) was the biggest loser, declining by nearly 9 percent. Banque Saudi Fransi (BSF) came second with a drop of 29 percent, and then Saudi British Bank (SABB) (30 percent). Saudi Telecom Co. (STC) and Saudi Arabia Fertilizers Co. (SAFCO) also retreated 43 percent each.

A total of 61 stocks decreased by more than 50 percent over this period, led by Anaam Holding which plunged by 97 percent and Aseer Trading, Tourism & Manufacturing Co. (Aseer) (96 percent). Nama Chemicals also tumbled by 95 percent, while Al Rajhi Bank and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation slumped by 56 percent and 50 percent respectively.

In February 2006, the Saudi benchmark traded at a price-t-earnings (P/E) ratio of more than 57 times, excluding the companies which had not launched operations at that time, compared to a current P/E ratio of 18.39 times. Also, a total of 41 companies, then, were traded at a higher P/E ratio compared to the market, led by Nama (2398x), while nine firms were traded at a negative P/E ratio.

Currently, 28 listed companies traded at a higher P/E ratio compared to the market, spearheaded by BATIC Investment and Logistics (49x), and Arabian Cement (45x). Also, 24 companies traded currently at a negative P/E ratio.
