US President Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser John Bolton arrived in the UAE on Tuesday for talks amidst regional tensions with Iran.
“Just landed in the UAE; looking forward to meeting our Emirati allies to discuss important and timely regional security matters,” Bolton said in a tweet yesterday.
The White House has been bolstering its Arab allies against the threat from Tehran with US warships and bombers sent to the region, plus the promise of more troops.
Bolton's planned meeting comes at a time when the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the US have increasingly sought to isolate Iran.
The visit also coincides with key meetings planned in Saudi Arabia.

Regional tensions have spiked since Donald Trump's administration re-imposed sanctions against Iran after unilaterally pulling out of a multilateral 2015 nuclear accord signed with the Islamic republic.
Regional summits are planned on Thursday and Friday in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
