Saudi Arabia wins ITU’s ‘Government Leadership Award’

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia won the “Government Leadership Award” presented by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

 

The award recognizes the Kingdom's achievements in developing a regulatory and policy framework that is promoting innovation and long-term investment and accelerating the digital economy, the ITU said in a statement.

 

Their application demonstrated excellent practice in terms of government transparency, predictability, public consultation and regulatory independence, the statement added.

 

The judges were also highly impressed by Saudi government’s adoption of policy proposals that embrace the role of mobile in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

The ITU grants its prize to 9 different categories including communications technology, consumer communication, industry creativity, best equipment, technology use, government leadership, and industry-leading achievements, according to data compiled by Argaam.
