Saudi Arabia is set to open today, Aug. 8, the new Salwa port, linking the Kingdom and Qatar, with a capacity six times greater than before, in the light of the forthcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) will start operating the passenger section as of today, with a capacity of 12,096 vehicles on arrival and 12,726 vehicles on departure, as the old port accommodated only 3,000 vehicles.
The kick-off is set to take place amid an inspection visit by Eastern Province Governor Prince Saud Bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz.
The new port will likely boost capacity, improve the passengers’ experience, speed up travel procedures and raise the efficiency of the port's operations, as the coming period will witness the opening of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
