US President Donald Trump says he will not cut U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods to get Beijing to the negotiating table.

 

Trump stated in press statements on Wednesday that the US was losing $1 trillion annually to China—referring to the US trade deficit with China—and that these losses must be stopped.

 

Trump refutes that Washington had asked Beijing to begin trade negotiations, saying that those promoting such a move should review their official records.

 

This came after the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated in a post on Twitter that the meeting between Chinese and US senior officials on economic matters was requested by the US side in Switzerland.
