US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that the United States is "optimistic" about ongoing trade negotiations with China aimed at de-escalating tensions triggered by tariffs imposed under President Donald Trump.
In an interview with CNN on May 11, Lutnick pointed out that both sides are "supportive" of the negotiating parties currently meeting in Switzerland, adding, "We are optimistic that things will work out well." He noted that both delegations are making significant efforts in what he described as "truly important" negotiations for both countries.
