Amiantit signs MoUs with Libya’s Unity govt. on water projects

The MoUs aim to develop water transmission and distribution networks in Libya

Saudi Arabian Amiantit Co. (Amiantit) signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) with the Council of Ministers of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), according to two separate statements to Tadawul.

The MoUs aim to collaborate with the GNU in the development of water transmission and distribution networks, sewage, rainwater and flood drainage projects.

In addition, the MoUs include the establishment of factories specializing in water and pipe technologies, the statement said.

The MoUs entail cooperation to localize specialized industries in Libya, which will support its economy, create job opportunities and develop the Libyan workforce.

They will lead to transfer of manufacturing technologies of fiberglass pipes of various types such as GRP/GRE, polyethylene pipes (HDPE), valves and other products. This is in addition to establishing joint factories to meet the needs of infrastructure projects in Libya, providing all technical details related to raw materials and production lines, as well as studying the possibility of offering them locally in the country.

The second MoU covers cooperation in advanced technologies for water and wastewater treatment, desalination, and water infrastructure solutions.

It includes designing and implementing the drinking water treatment plants in line with the highest international standards; designing and implementing wastewater and sludge treatment plants, including advanced technologies; reverse osmosis (RO) desalination technologies; treatment of industrial pollutants and high-salinity water using innovative advanced solutions and ready-made (containerized / modular) solutions to meet urgent or on-site needs.

The MoU further covers operation and maintenance (O&M) of plants and transfer of operational expertise to Libyan personnel; the implementation of technical and environmental feasibility studies for new projects, and the development of existing plants, and providing training and capacity building for Libyan engineers and technicians.

Each MoU has a term of three years, the statement said, adding that no related parties are involved.

The MoUs will not lead to any financial impact at present. Any material impact will be disclosed if binding agreements or contracts are concluded in the future, the statement added.
