The speaker of the Iranian Parliament said the legislature is considering a bill to suspend Tehran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency in response to the UN nuclear agency’s unprofessional conduct.
Addressing a Monday session of the Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf reiterated the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, according to Tasnim News Agency.
Highlighting a religious decree issued by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on the prohibition of nuclear weapons, the Parliament speaker said, “Iran has no plans for non-peaceful activities, but the world witnessed clearly that the IAEA has not honored any of its commitments and has turned into a political instrument.”
The Iranian Parliament is considering to pass a bill on the suspension of Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA as long as Tehran is not given tangible guarantees of the UN nuclear agency’s professional conduct, Qalibaf stated.
Qalibaf's remarks come after US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, which Tehran described as direct involvement in the war after Israel failed to achieve its objectives.
The Iranian official said Tehran reserves the right to resort to its own options for reaction to the US attacks.
