Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) and Saudi Minerva Co. jointly launched the first Floating Storage Unit (FSU) for ship regasification at Jeddah Islamic Port, with a capacity of 113,000 cubic meters.
This came in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA), and the Transport General Authority (TGA), according to the authority's statement today, Sept. 9.
The new storage unit marks a major shift in maritime fuel supply logistics in the Red Sea region. It improves the efficiency of bulk fuel delivery, streamlines blending operations, and speeds up the fueling process by supply vessels, which play a vital role in distributing fuel to transiting ships.
This initiative also enhances the operation of the new customs bonded zone, facilitating faster and smoother customs clearance for imports and exports while offering greater flexibility for beneficiaries.
The unit is equipped to store all three main types of marine fuel: Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), High Sulfur Fuel Oil (HSFO), and Marine Gas Oil (MGO).
Additionally, the unit serves the authority’s modern fleet of fuel supply tankers, enabling them to operate efficiently, while also supplying fuel to other licensed fuel providers.
Meanwhile, MAWANI stated that registering the FSU as a customs bonded zone is an innovative approach that enables high-efficiency operations while ensuring full customs control over goods movement in and out of the Kingdom.
This contributes to strengthening the Kingdom’s maritime economy, in line with the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy under Vision 2030, it added.
