US merchandise trade deficit narrowed in August, as imports of goods declined at a faster pace than exports.
Data released by the US Census Bureau on Thursday showed the merchandise trade deficit declined by $17.3 billion, or 16.8%, to $85.5 billion in August.
US merchandise exports fell $2.3 billion month-on-month (MoM) to $176.1 billion.
While imports fell by $19.6 billion to $261.6 billion last month, the data showed.
