US gov't shutdown delays jobs report first time since 2013

The US government shutdown has led to the suspension of the highly anticipated nonfarm payrolls report, which was scheduled for release today and is closely watched by investors and policymakers.

The delay adds to the uncertainty facing markets and the Federal Reserve, particularly after the release of weekly jobless claims data was also suspended on Thursday.

On Wednesday, data of ADP National Employment Report showed the US private sector shed 32,000 jobs in September, fueling concerns over labor market weakness and raising expectations the Fed may accelerate interest rate cuts.

This marks the first time since the 2013 US government shutdown that the release of the jobs report has been delayed, underscoring the sensitivity of financial markets to disruptions in the flow of key economic data.
