King Salman International Airport (KSIA) reached a major milestone with the completion of its project master plan, Acting CEO Marco Mejia said.

He explained that 45 km² will be dedicated to aviation-related activities and 12 km² to commercial and logistics zones, highlighting that these allocations are crucial for all upcoming phases of the project.

Speaking to CNBC Arabia, Mejia said that Terminal 6 will boost the current airport’s capacity by 40 million passengers. Construction is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with the goal of delivering the project on schedule in 2030, coinciding with Expo.

He added that new hangars and buildings will be constructed starting in early 2026 and are expected to become operational in 2027. This comes alongside upgrades and renovations to the existing runway, beginning in December and set for completion by 2027, ensuring the development of all airport assets.

Mejia highlighted that the project will contribute SAR 27 billion to non-oil GDP and drive activity across key sectors, including services, cargo, housing, hospitality, and entertainment. He noted that the airport is a cornerstone in shaping a future-focused urban environment.

He also pointed out that the airport is owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which is injecting substantial capital into the project. Efforts are underway to attract private-sector investors through a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the final phase of private-sector engagement expected in 2026.

Mejia stressed that the airport is working closely with surrounding communities and major neighboring projects to support all relevant activities, including Expo 2030, and to meet the region’s essential needs through a sustainable mobility and partnership framework.
