Minister of Finance Mohammed Al-Jadaan calls for discipline in addressing mining-related issues

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Finance Mohammed Al-Jadaan said several countries are now viewing minerals as a matter of national and economic security.

“This will create opportunities through partnerships with host countries or third parties”, he said during a session at the Future Minerals Forum.

Al-Jadaan stressed the need for discipline in addressing mining-related issues and in selecting investments across countries and minerals.

Measuring success in the mining industry solely by production volumes will not work and will not be sustainable over the long term, he said.

Production should be accompanied by quality, prosperity and sustainability for the state and the related communities, the minister noted.

The mining sector plays a pivotal role in attracting capital, underscoring the need for stable and well-defined policies to support long-term investments, he noted.

Further, global markets are experiencing heightened uncertainty due to economic changes and geopolitical developments, the minister said.

Amid global volatility, the mining industry requires greater reliability and enhanced predictability, alongside disciplined investment decisions by selecting the most suitable countries and metals for investment, Al-Jadaan said.
