Focus shifts to the Strait of Hormuz as geopolitical tensions persist

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that using nuclear weapons against Iran is “unlikely” if the conflict in the Middle East escalates further.

An international coalition is close to being formed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, he added.

During a luncheon with members of the Kennedy Center Board, Trump outlined a firm US stance on reopening the Strait of Hormuz through a prospective international coalition, while expressing dissatisfaction with limited support from certain allies despite longstanding US protection.

Militarily, the campaign against Iran is described as ongoing at full intensity, with extensive strikes and continued pressure despite uncertainty over Iran, alongside indications of possible negotiations, he said.

The situation of the Iranian opposition is portrayed as constrained, while Iran retains limited military capabilities.

On the economic front, the US signals leverage over oil infrastructure, having largely destroyed key assets while keeping options for future escalation open, the President said.

Trump anticipates that resolving oil price disruptions will lead to a rapid decline in inflation.
