Saudi Arabia’s finance minister Ibrahim Al-Assaf is regularly monitoring the expansion projects surrounding Al-Masjid al-Nabawi, or the Mosque of Prophet Mohamed, per directions of King Abdullah.
The project is progressing according to the planned schedule, Al-Assaf was quoted as saying in Al-Madinah newspaper.
The first phase of the expansion is currently being implemented to the eastern side of the mosque, he said.
According to data available on Argaam, King Abdullah has officially adopted the mosque’s final phases of development in the northern, eastern and western sides.
King Abdullah in 2013 had signed the expansion plan for the project, which will allow a visitor capacity of 1.6 million persons.
