The number of subscribers to Saudi Arabia’s health insurance system declined by two percent year-on-year (YOY) to 9.64 million in 2014, the annual report of the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance showed.
Saudi and foreign subscribers totaled 2.83 million and 6.81 million, respectively.
Medical insurance dominated 52 percent of the kingdom’s insurance market during the same period, registering growth of 22 percent YOY.

A total of 28 insurers provide medical coverage, of which 18 were located in Riyadh, six in Jeddah and four in the Eastern Province.
Meanwhile, eight firms provided claim management services, the report added.
Licensed health service providers grew by 14 percent YOY to 2,478, of which 2,463 were privately-held firms.
The Saudi capital came on top in terms of health service providers with 930 firms, followed by Makkah (622).
