Saudi Arabia’s cabinet has approved establishing a new company for water transmission and technologies as a state-owned entity, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
In addition, the cabinet also approved the privatization model of Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC).
The decision was issued following the review of the recommendations made by Abdul Rahman Alfadly, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and SWCC’s Board Chairman, and the Council of Economic and Development Affairs.
“The Cabinet decision is another key move to restructure the water sector and encourage the private sector’s participation in line with SWCC’s privatization objectives,” said Abdul Rahman Alfadly, inister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and SWCC’s Board Chairman.
Meanwhile, the new water transmission firm will operate on a commercial basis to provide water transmission and technological services. It will also operate water transmission and storage systems across the Kingdom.
The new company will also set up, develop and operate water transmission systems, and manage the water desalination research and training centers, Alfadly added.
