Elon Musk has become the first person in history to surpass $800 billion in net worth, following SpaceX’s acquisition of his AI and social networking startup, xAI.
Forbes estimates the deal, which values the new company at $1.25 trillion, added $84 billion to Musk’s wealth, bringing it to a record $852 billion.
Before the deal, Musk held a 42% stake in SpaceX worth $336 billion, based on a December investment round that valued the rocket maker at $800 billion.
He also owned a 49% stake in xAI valued at $122 billion, according to an earlier funding round that valued the company at $250 billion earlier this month.
Following the merger, which values SpaceX at $1 trillion and xAI at $250 billion, Forbes estimates Musk now owns 43% of the combined entity, worth $542 billion.
Musk also holds a 12% stake in Tesla worth $178 billion, along with $124 billion in stock options.
This does not include Tesla’s standard compensation package approved by shareholders in November, which could award Musk up to $1 trillion in additional stock (before taxes and the cost of releasing restricted shares) if the company achieves exceptional milestones.
