The total number of coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia increased by 4,233 to 127,541 as of Sunday, June 14, the Ministry of Health announced today.
Recoveries reached 2,172, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 84,720, representing 66% of total registered cases.
Forty new death cases were reported, while the death toll hit 972.
The total active cases currently receiving treatment amounted to 41,849 cases, of which 1,855 are critical.
In addition, a total of 1,735 cases were reported in Riyadh, followed by Jeddah (352), Makkah (314), Dammam (161), Madinah (158), Al Hofuf (147), Qatif (144), and Al Khobar (137).
A total of 19,377 tests were conducted today, bringing the total number of tests to 1.11 million.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health's official spokesman, Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdulali, attributed the rise in critical cases to those who required healthcare support, as well as due to community infection.
Nearly 90% of the critical cases were registered in Riyadh, Makkah, Al Sharqiya, Madinah, and Jeddah, he noted, adding that the infection growth rate lowered below level 1 but bounced back due to rise in active transmission as a result of sociability.
“Saudi Arabia has two paths ahead, the first is that the infection growth rate will rise, in case of non-compliance and commitment, or we can return to a decline infection rates through our commitment to the adherence to precautionary measures,” Al-Abdulali stressed.
The return plan is proceeding properly and once the community is committed then the to return to normalcy will be more successful, he noted.
