The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD), in partnership with the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing, announced the decision to localize 25% of private sector engineering professions, starting July 21.

The new localization rates will apply to private-sector establishments that employ five persons in engineering professions, according to a ministerial statement today, Jan. 21.

The ministry issued a guide explaining the details of localization, professions, and percentages required on its website. It stressed the need for establishments to comply and adhere to the implementation of these provisions, to avoid the statutory penalties that will apply against violators.

The decision came within the efforts of the two ministries to provide more stimulating and productive job opportunities for male and female citizens in various regions of the Kingdom.

The Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing said it will work to follow up on the implementation of this decision, which is bound to raise local labor participation. It will oversee the decision’s application in accordance with the requirements of the labor market and the specialization of engineering professions.

According to Argaam's data, it has been reported today that the two ministries intend to soon announce decisions on the provision of more than 16,000 jobs for Saudi men and women in the engineering sector.
