The final statement of the EU-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, held in Brussels, highlighted a mutual agreement to further strengthen bilateral, regional, and multilateral frameworks to enhance relations across all levels.

 

Both parties also committed to maintaining regular dialogue by holding a summit every two years, with the next meeting scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia in 2026.

 

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), both sides reaffirmed their dedication to improving communication by collaborating on practical steps to enable visa-free, safe, and mutually beneficial travel between the EU's Schengen states and the GCC countries.

 

On economic matters, the EU and the GCC reiterated their commitment to fostering a prosperous and balanced trade and investment relationship that benefits both sides through multilateral, regional, and bilateral frameworks. This will enhance cooperation across trade, investment, and economic sectors.

 

The two sides highlighted the significance of their strategic trade and investment partnership, which is rooted in shared interests and mutual ambitions. They aim to seize opportunities presented by a rapidly evolving business environment, digital and green transitions, sustainable energy, and increasing connectivity, as well as to promote sectoral cooperation that contributes to economic integration and diversification goals.

 

Both parties expressed their commitment to continuing discussions on establishing a regional free trade agreement between the GCC countries and the EU, which would include a specific chapter on investments.

 

They also demonstrated interest in advancing trade and investment dialogue and enhancing joint investments to facilitate cooperation in trade. Additionally, they aim to streamline regulatory cooperation, align standards, promote dialogue on restrictive measures and their implementation, and strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights, including geographical indications.
