The number of US claims filed for unemployment benefits kept unchanged at its highest level since October 2024, amid uncertainty about trade tensions.
According to data released today, June 12, by the US Department of Labor, the initial jobless claims stabilized at 248,000 in the week ended June 7, which were revised up by 1,000 claims, while expectations had pointed to a 246,000-claim decrease.
The four-week average, considered a more reliable measure of labor market trends, rose by 5,000 to 240,250, the highest since August 2023, compared to last week's average of 235,250 (up 250 from the original figure).
