Amin Nasser, President and CEO of Saudi Aramco, said history showed that oil and gas remained crucial during times of conflict, which is clearly evident today.

Speaking at an energy conference today, June 16, Nasser said threats to energy security are still a global concern.

The CEO added that experience proved emerging energy sources do not replace legacy ones, but rather add to them. He noted that the transition to net-zero emissions could cost up to $200 trillion, and renewable energy sources do not meet current demand.

As a result, Nasser said, energy security and affordability became central pillars of sustainability as key goals of the energy transition.
