Jet fuel prices surged in recent days, hitting their highest levels in Europe since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, as Middle East energy exports were disrupted.
Jet fuel in Europe rose to $1,222.25 a ton on Tuesday, jumping about 48% in just two days, Bloomberg reported.
The jet fuel premium over crude in Northwest Europe also climbed above $70 a barrel, the highest on record in data tracked by General Index since 2008.
The European Union relies on the Strait of Hormuz for about 50% of its jet fuel imports, compared with only 12% for diesel, leaving the aviation sector most exposed to the war’s impact.
