Dubai plans to build a new AED 3 billion ($817 million) sports stadium in Al Aweer, state news agency WAM reported.

Mohammed bin Rashid Stadium will have a capacity of 60,000 and will be the world’s first fully air-conditioned and raised off-the-ground stadium. The venue also complies with FIFA standards, WAM said.

It will include a training facility, 5,000-space parking lot, a sports museum and conference halls.

Lebanon’s Dar Al-Handasah will act as consultant on the project, while US-based Perkins+Will will be the main contractor.

Vice-president and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum approved the design on Wednesday and ordered implementation of the project. A completion date, however, was not mentioned in the statement.
