Omar Abdulhamid, director of the research division at the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will resign from his position at the cartel to rejoin Saudi Arabian Oil Co. (Saudi Aramco), Reuters reported on Thursday, citing unnamed industry sources.

In May 2013, Abdulhamid joined OPEC as head of research division, the second highest post after the secretary general, replacing Kuwait’s Hasan Qabazard.

He earlier served as head of the research and development center at Saudi Aramco.

Meanwhile, OPEC is expected to discuss the replacement of its secretary general Abdullah El-Badri, in its upcoming meeting scheduled for June 2, Reuters said.

Nigeria has nominated Mohammed Barkindo, a former head of its state oil firm NNPC, as the next secretary general of the producer group.
