Signing the agreement
Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) signed an agreement with Spain-based Talgo Co. to purchase 20 trains, as part of efforts to enhance the Haramain High-Speed Railway fleet.
According to a post by SAR on X, delivery of the first batches of trains is scheduled to begin in 2028, with full delivery of the entire new fleet expected to be completed by 2031.
SAR said the agreement aims to improve operational efficiency and increase the fleet’s total capacity to 30 million seats annually, in addition to enhancing fleet readiness to support future traffic growth.
Once completed, the total number of trains will reach 55.
The company added that each train will consist of 13 cars, with a total capacity of 417 seats, including 304 economy class seats and 113 business class seats, in addition to dedicated seating for passengers with disabilities.
