×US stocks end lower on higher Treasury yields
US indices lost steam on Thursday as Treasury yields ended a three-day decline amid profit-taking by investors to tap the records hit by the indices.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.1%, or 38 points, to settle at 39,869 points, after exceeding the 40,000 level for the first time.
The S&P 500 index dropped by 0.2%, or 11 points, to 5,297 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.25%, or 44 points, to 16,698 points.
As for European markets, the STOXX Europe 600 inched down 0.2% to 523.6 points.
The British FTSE index declined by 0.1% to close at 8,438 points, while the German DAX index fell 0.7% to 18,738 points, and the French CAC 40 index edged down 0.65% to 8,188 points.
The Nikkei index rose 1.4%, or 534 points, to 38,920 points, and the broader Topix index added 0.25% to 2,737 points.
Brent crude futures for June delivery rose 0.65%, or 52 cents, at $83.27 per barrel.
WTI crude for June delivery increased 0.75%, or 60 cents, at $79.23 per barrel.
Regarding gold, futures prices for June delivery fell by 0.4%, or $9.4, to $2,385.50 per ounce.
