POS transactions fall 11% to SAR 7.6 bln in week ending Feb. 13: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 11% to SAR 7.63 billion in the week ending Feb. 13, 2021, from SAR 8.56 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that a total of 78.65 million transactions were processed in the week ending Feb. 13.

Majority of the sectors witnessed a decline, except for fuel stations and construction materials, which increased by 2% and 1%, respectively.

 

The education sector led the decline, with a fall of 38%, followed by the hotels sector with 26%.

 

Consumer spending focused on food and beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.26 billion, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 885.7 million and miscellaneous goods and services sector with SAR 643.6 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.42 billion, representing 32% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.24 billion.
