The Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites (RCMC), through the Unified Transport Center in Makkah (Makkah Transport), launched the third pilot phase of the public bus transport project in Makkah.

The pilot phase includes the operation of three additional routes, covering four vital sites, including Masjid Al-Haram area, Alawali district, Fourth Ring Road and Rashidiya, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) cited the center as saying today, June 2.

That is besides equipping 55 22-hour buses, providing jobs for 132 trained drivers that were granted the necessary licenses and professional certifications, while increasing the number of bus stops to 161. This is aimed at expanding the range of beneficiaries.

According to data compiled by Argaam, the trial run for the project’s first phase was launched in mid-February, while pilot operations of the second phase started in mid-March.

Makkah bus network consists of 12 tracks, served by approximately 425 stops and four major stations in the central region.
