Assets of Saudi investment funds fall 9% to SAR 174.3 bln in Q3 2022

The total value of assets held by investment funds in Saudi Arabia fell by 9% to SAR 174.3 billion in Q3 2022, compared to SAR 192.5 billion a year earlier, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

The decline was attributed to a 6% year-on-year (YoY) drop in local assets – which represent 77% of total assets – to SAR 134.7 billion. In addition, foreign fund assets – equivalent to 23% of the total – shed 20% to SAR 39.7 billion.

 

Investment funds are either open- or closed-end, with total assets of open-end funds at approximately SAR 148.1 billion, accounting for 85% of the total. Assets of closed-end investment funds amounted to SAR 26.3 billion.

Investment funds hold both local and foreign assets, each including shares, bonds, cash instruments and other assets. Real estate investments are also on the list.
