×POS weekly transactions reach SAR 12 bln: SAMA
POS machine
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 12 billion in the week ended March 18, compared to SAR 13.21 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors reported weak performance, except for education that rose 139%.
Clothes and footwear led the declining sectors, falling by 20%, followed by hotels (19%) and jewelry (19%).
During the week, consumer spending focused on food and beverages at nearly SAR 2 billion, and restaurants and cafes at SAR 1.65 billion:

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.95 billion, or 33% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.78 billion, as indicated below:
