×POS weekly transactions down to SAR 10.4 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.38 billion in the week ended April 29, compared to SAR 12 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 155.41 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Clothes and footwear led the worst-performing sectors by value, at 64%. It was followed by jewelry (61%) and then furniture (28%).
Education, meanwhile, topped the best performing industries at 435%, followed by construction materials (20%).
During the week, consumer spending focused on restaurants and cafes at SAR 1.93 billion and food and beverages at SAR 1.80 billion:

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.06 billion, or 29% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.47 billion, as indicated below:
