POS weekly transactions rise to SAR 15.2B: SAMA

Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia reached nearly SAR 15.22 billion in the week ended June 1, up from nearly SAR 11.21 billion in the previous week.

The number of POS transactions hit about 219.69 million last week, according to data issued by SAMA.
POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

Sales value rose across the board last week except for hotels, which dropped 6%.
Clothes and footwear led with an increase of 57%. It was followed by education and telecommunications sectors (56% each) and the transport sector (45%).
Consumer spending was focused on the F&B sector, totaling SAR 2.4 billion during the week. The restaurants and cafes sector followed with total POS transactions worth SAR 2.07 billion, as follows:
