Ride-hailing app revenue rises to SAR 2.3B in 2024

Total revenue from ride-hailing app services in Saudi Arabia reached approximately SAR 2.3 billion in 2024, marking a 22% increase compared to 2023, according to the annual report of the Transport General Authority (TGA).

Data showed that 80.5 million trips were completed via ride-hailing apps across various cities in the Kingdom during 2024, up from 63.9 million trips in 2023.

The number of active Saudi drivers using ride-hailing apps rose to 332,100 in 2024, a 27% increase year-on-year (YoY).

The transport authority attributed this growth to a temporary amendment in the technical specifications of vehicles eligible to operate in the ride-hailing industry, extending the maximum vehicle age from seven to 10 years. This regulatory change, announced on Aug. 17, enabled 35,000 new drivers to enter the industry, collectively completing five million trips.

Last year witnessed a 6% decline in inspections conducted by monitoring teams, which totaled 6,462 in 2024. However, the number of violations surged to 6,439, compared to 2,078 in 2023. Meanwhile, the compliance rate of licensed ride-hailing companies with regulatory standards stood at 83%.

Currently, ride-hailing services in the Kingdom are provided through 45 licensed digital platforms.

The Riyadh region accounted for the largest share of ride-hailing app trips, at 39% of total rides, or 31.8 million trips. The Makkah region ranked second with 19.5 million trips, or 24% of the total, followed by the Eastern Province in third place with 13.1 million trips.
